Rob finds friendship and independence at our Activity Centre
Companionship and care help Rob stay connected and strong.
Rob credits his regular attendance at integratedliving’s Activity Centres with helping him get out of the house and maintain healthy social connections. Apart from a period in hospital, it has been part of his weekly routine since 2022.
Rob says his favourite thing about going is the companionship. He enjoys getting together with other people, playing trivia, doing quizzes and sudoku. Rob loves learning and frequently uses Google to find the answers. He has yet to try karaoke and has warned the staff that if they want to clear the room, he will give it a try!
A joker at heart, Rob enjoys giving silly answers at quiz time. “Nothing beats a good laugh; it is good for the soul. The staff are easy to get along with. We give each other some cheek. You’ve got to keep having some fun,” Rob said.
Perhaps this is his medicine for adversity. Rob is a double amputee. Due to infections in his feet, and complications after surgery related to diabetes, Rob lost both legs. Rob is fiercely independent but is grateful for in home support provided by integratedliving, including home and garden maintenance, personal care and Lite n’ Easy meals. Rob is delighted with his integratedliving Case Manager Meegan.
Rob’s sense of humour has helped him form close bonds with the staff and people who attend the Centre. He loves to have a laugh at his own expense, joking that ‘he doesn’t have a leg to stand on,’ and that he ‘wants to join the gym to go on the treadmill.’ He also enjoys socialising over coffee and lunch breaks, and going on occasional outings organised by the Centre’s friendly team.
Rob was born in Japan in 1955 and emigrated to Australia when he was two years old. He moved to Newcastle from Singleton in 1980, where he worked in banking. Rob came to care for his mother and never left. You could safely say he’s a local now.
His dream is to win the Lotto and purchase a modified camper van so he can travel around Australia.
