Discover the love story of Faye and Keith: 70 years of marriage

Written by Julianna Stewart, Communications Partner with integratedliving

Unveiling the secrets behind 70 years of devoted love and partnership.

Faye and Keith first laid eyes on each other at the ages of eight and 10 from across the street.

It was a childhood friendship that later blossomed into romance when their mothers intervened, prodding Keith to ask Faye to the local ball.

A lifetime of love and partnership

In 1954 the couple married and over the following 70 years, they not only built a life together but also co-managed several businesses, including a pub in Gundagai NSW. They raised two daughters and now have four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

At 94, Keith playfully remarks that the secret to a long and happy marriage is always saying 'yes dear'.

“It’s not always me saying that. We split it and take turns,” he jests.

While the childhood sweethearts acknowledge their ups and downs over the years, they emphasise the importance of saying ‘I love you’ and holding hands before they go to sleep each night.

Case Manager Sherrie has supported Keith and Faye by organising in-home care including domestic assistance, meals and podiatry under their Home Care Package.

“They are the sweetest couple, and it’s important for them to remain in their own home together,” Sherrie said. “It’s important for me, too, and it’s why I do the job that I do.”

Love beyond the milestones

For those who enjoy hearing how love evolves over time, long‑married couples also share what has helped their relationships last, offering insight drawn from decades together.

Love is also seen in the everyday support couples give one another, including Shirley’s experience of caring for her husband while finding renewed independence at home.
