Laughter, creativity, and community at our Activity Centres

Written by Rachelle Thomas, Activity Centre Team Leader with integratedliving

Our Activity Centres came alive with celebrations, crafts, and shared moments that create lasting memories for everyone.

In this chapter of our Activity Centres journey we’re celebrating the creativity, fun and camaraderie that define our community. From crafting fascinators for Melbourne Cup Day to arranging beautiful native flowers, each activity has sparked some special joy and brought our clients closer together. Whether it’s friendly competition in racing-themed games or bonding over artistic projects, our Centres have been alive with laughter and connection.

Fashion, fun, and the Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup Day was celebrated in true style across all our Activity Centres. Clients kicked off the festivities by creating beautiful handmade fascinators and vibrant bowties, showing off their creativity and setting the scene for our own 'Fashions on the Field' competition. Judged by the clients themselves, the competition highlighted the unique flair of each participant while everyone proudly modelling their handmade accessories.

Adding to the excitement, clients enjoyed racing-themed games, sparking laughter and friendly rivalry throughout the day.

As the main event approached, everyone gathered eagerly to watch the Melbourne Cup race. It was a day brimming with colour, fun and camaraderie.

It was truly a Melbourne Cup to for all to remember.

Creating beautiful flower arrangements

Our recent flower-arranging activity brought joy and creativity to everyone involved. Clients spent the day working with a selection of beautiful native flowers, carefully crafting stunning arrangements that brightened the room with colour and fragrance.
Each client had the opportunity to choose from an assortment of blooms, learning simple techniques to create their own unique designs.

The ladies proudly took home a bouquet, while the men were thrilled to surprise their loved ones with a handmade arrangement by the end of the day. It was a wonderful opportunity for clients to express their creativity and enjoy a relaxing experience that encouraged mindfulness and connection.

Activities like flower arranging not only inspire creativity but also provide a meaningful way for clients to share something special with family and friends, foster connections and make lasting memories.

Staying active, creative, and connected together

This month, our Centres were lively with a vibrant mix of activities, including group dice games, board games and plenty of movement-focused sessions. Each day offered something unique, from creative arts and crafts to relaxing colouring, providing perfect opportunities to unwind and enjoy social moments together. Highlights included mixed-media leaf collages and papercraft projects that tapped into everyone’s artistic side.

Men’s Day featured competitive floor games that sparked friendly rivalry and added excitement to the week. With popular activities like putt-putt golf, morning exercises and bowls, our clients stayed both physically and mentally active.

Studies have shown that combining physical exercise with cognitive challenges can boost memory and cognitive health in older adults. This is something our dedicated Activity Officers keep in mind as they design engaging sessions for all to enjoy.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories in 'Live Well Moments' as we continue to celebrate the incredible journeys and community spirit at our Activity Centres.
