Infection prevention and control and your privacy

Help us manage Potential Transmittable Diseases responsibly.

What is a Potential Transmittable Disease?

Transmittable diseases are illnesses that can spread from one person to another. Some common ones include COVID-19, Influenza (the flu), RSV, Rhinovirus (which causes the common cold), Gastroenteritis (a stomach bug), Measles, and Shingles. These diseases can spread through coughing, sneezing, touching things, or close contact.

It’s important for staff to know about these diseases so they can keep all clients safe. Many people receiving care at home are older or have weaker immune systems, so getting sick can be very serious for them. Knowling if someone is unwell or has been exposed means we can break the chain in spreading.

Knowing if clients have or have been in contact with others who have these diseases also helps staff use the right safety steps, like wearing gloves or masks, cleaning properly, and spotting symptoms early. This helps stop the disease from spreading and keeps everyone healthier.

What do we do to keep you and others safe?

At the start of each service, staff will ask you for information that can help us determine how best to provide services to you including:

Whether you, or anyone in your household, has any symptoms that may indicate you have a potential transmittable disease

  • Whether you have been exposed to someone diagnosed, or
  • Have any other reason to suspect you may have a potential transmittable disease as outlined above.

From here, we will work with you to ensure we limit the risk of disease spread.
