Aged Care Reforms Are Coming — Now from November 2025

Written by Tami Bradley, Head of Marketing and Communications with integratedliving

Aged Care Reforms will now begin on 1 November 2025, giving providers and older Australians more time to prepare for the changes.

The Australian Government is making important changes to aged care, with a new Aged Care Act designed to improve the quality of services and give older Australians more choice, control and dignity. The updated start date for these reforms is now 1 November 2025

In open letters to both older Australians and aged-care providers, Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, Sam Rae MP said the deferral will allow people to better understand the changes and make informed decisions, and assist providers to better prepare themselves and their clients. Minister Rae noted that an extra four months will help older Australians become more familiar with the Support at Home reforms.

Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, released a statement outlining the Government’s decision:

“We want to make sure that all operational, digital and legislative pieces are in place before the rollout starts. This brief deferral allows providers to train their staff and have conversations with their clients, get their IT systems ready and prepare operations for an orderly transition,” Mr Butler said.

At integratedliving, we support these changes and believe the extra time will help ensure the reforms are introduced in a way that benefits clients and communities — especially in regional and rural Australia.
