Community Connections: New Beginnings at Gosford, Gorokan, Woy Woy & Raymond Terrace

Written by Rachelle Thomas, Activity Centre Team Leader with integratedliving

From creative arts and crafts projects to the return of Community Transport, let’s reflect on how our incredible Activity Centres have once again filled the past month with heartwarming moments, inspiring creativity and exciting change.

Getting creative at Gosford

What a fantastic month for Gosford. We hosted our Open Day, welcoming guests and caregivers for an insightful presentation from Hearing Australia. It was a pleasure to share knowledge and connect with our community.

Creativity has been flowing at Gosford, celebrating St Patrick’s Day and Harmony Day with arts and crafts, painting, card games and even Hollywood trivia. A highlight was the 'Creative Tree' project, where clients decorated branches with colourful handmade leaves - an evolving masterpiece that we intend to grow.

We were delighted to welcome back Community Transport this month, making travel easier for our clients. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff, caregivers and clients for their support. We look forward to being fully operational soon and welcome any feedback on how we can improve.

Artistic activities at Woy Woy

At Woy Woy, our clients enjoyed a fantastic mix of activities, from trivia and crosswords to ball games and a creative twist on golf. Clients also celebrated St Patrick’s Day and Harmony Week. A highlight was our art session inspired by Horace Pippin, where clients recreated his work while listening to calming music - showcasing incredible talent.

Recently, our clients embraced their artistic side through a still life painting session. Using watercolours, they carefully created vibrant arrangements featuring fruits, vases and greenery. The results were stunning.

A special thank you to our dedicated staff, caregivers and families for their ongoing support, especially as we welcome back Community Transport, making travel easier for our clients.

Heartwarming moments at Raymond Terrace

March has been a fantastic month at the Raymond Terrace Activity Centre. We had the pleasure of hosting NSW Fire & Rescue, who provided an insightful presentation on fire safety at home and in the community. They also shared valuable information about specialised alarms for individuals with hearing impairments, featuring vibrating sensor pads and strobe lights for added safety.

We also included a heartwarming story in the integratedliving team's Essential newsletter about our clients Winston and Wayne. Upon attending the Activity Centre, the two discovered they were long-lost second cousins! Their reunion sparked wonderful conversations and a shared journey through family history.

This month was filled with celebrations, from Craig’s birthday on St Patrick’s Day to Harmony Day festivities. As we prepare for Easter, clients are busy crafting outdoor dangles and colourful crepe paper eggs.

Exciting events at Gorokan

What a vibrant month it’s been at Gorokan. From the green of St Patrick’s Day to the orange of Harmony Day, the purple of International Women’s Day, a delightful pink Pamper Party, and the gold and glitz of Hollywood, our clients have enjoyed a truly colourful journey.

On Harmony Day, we celebrated our diverse cultures and traditions, reflecting the rich backgrounds of our clients and staff, who come from over six different countries, including Fiji, Sweden, Greece, the Philippines, Ireland and England.

'Hollywood Week' transported us to the golden era of film with themed activities, movie afternoons and photo shoots, as clients reminisced about their favourite classic films.

Our 'Pink Pamper Party' gave our ladies the chance to relax with manicures, hand massages and sweet treats, while our gentlemen enjoyed card games and chats with our volunteer, Pete. We also proudly recognised International Women’s Day by wearing purple and celebrating not only famous women but also the everyday women who inspire and uplift us.
