What is a Home Care Package?
A Home Care Package (HCP) is a government-funded program that helps older Australians access the services they need to live independently. It’s designed for those with more complex care needs than what the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) offers.

There are four Home Care Package levels to help meet different levels of care needs:

Home Care Package funds can be used for a wide range of services to support independent living, including:
- In-home nursing and allied health services (e.g. wound care, medication management, podiatry, physiotherapy)
- Health services (e.g. diet and nutrition, dementia care, telehealth)
- Personal care services (e.g. toileting, showering, grooming)
- Help at home (e.g. gardening, cleaning, meal delivery)
- Social support (e.g. social outings, home visits, transport)
- Wellness programs (e.g. learn how to manage conditions associated with diabetes, learning how to manage symptoms of dementia)

Am I eligible for a Home Care Package?
If you or someone you care for needs support at home, eligibility for a government-funded Home Care Package is determined through an aged care assessment. This helps identify the level of care needed and the services that best match those needs.

How much will Home Care Package cost me?
Understanding costs upfront helps you make confident decisions for yourself or someone you care for. Depending on your financial situation, you may need to contribute to the cost of care. This contribution includes:
- Basic daily fee – calculated daily and payable from the day your care starts with us to the day your care ends.
- Income-tested care fee – whether you pay this and how much do you pay is determined by completing an income and means assessment. Find out more here.
- Additional fees – any other amount you have agreed to pay for extra care and services that would not otherwise be covered by your Home Care Package.
