How an exercise physiologist supports seniors in aged care

Written by Joanne Isaac, Senior Manager (Communications and Campaigns) with integratedliving

Our exercise physiologists support better health through tailored exercise plans.

Exercise physiologists are university-qualified allied-health professionals. They work with people to provide individualised exercise programs to assist in improving or managing injuries or acute or chronic health conditions. They do this by completing a thorough assessment to ensure any prescribed exercise is best suited to a client’s needs and goals.

integratedliving Exercise Physiologist Daniel really enjoys working with older people to help them improve their health and recover from injuries.

“We can prescribe exercises to help people maintain strength, cardiovascular fitness, balance and mobility,” Daniel said. “So they can remain independent, complete activities of daily living and enjoy their hobbies.”

“We tend to work with people with long-term, ongoing chronic health conditions.”

Daniel said people love attending our Wellness Centres, and not only for the physical benefits. “People benefit greatly from the social aspect of the Centre.
“They love to engage in exercise but also enjoy the chats, laughter and camaraderie,” Daniel said.

“This also has a positive influence on their overall wellbeing.

“Many clients note when they start their exercise program, they are often experiencing constant aches and pains and finding it more difficult to complete tasks at home,” Daniel said.

“But after exercising regularly, there is a definite improvement in their physical health and they are more able to complete activities at home and get out in the community.”
You can access the services of one of our exercise physiologists even if you do not live near a Wellness Centre. Many people work with one of our exercise physiologists virtually.
